Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most important questions about our services and methodology.
What is Operational Excellence and how does it differ from other improvement approaches?
Operational Excellence (OpEx) is a holistic business philosophy aimed at continuously improving all business processes. Unlike one-time optimization projects, OpEx establishes a lasting improvement culture within the organization. It combines proven methods such as Lean Management and Six Sigma with a systematic, data-driven approach. The goal is not just to fix individual problems but to sustainably empower the entire organization to optimize processes independently.
What is Lean Six Sigma and what belt levels exist?
Lean Six Sigma is a globally recognized methodology that combines the efficiency principles of Lean Management with the data-driven problem-solving of Six Sigma. Training follows a belt system: Yellow Belts have a foundational understanding, Green Belts can independently lead improvement projects, and Black Belts are experts who manage complex projects and coach other belts. Additionally, Master Black Belts are responsible for the strategic direction of an improvement program.
What does DMAIC mean and how does a typical improvement project work?
DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control — the five phases of a structured improvement project. In the Define phase, the problem and project goals are clearly defined. The Measure phase captures the current state with data. The Analyze phase identifies root causes. In the Improve phase, solutions are developed and implemented. The Control phase ensures sustainability.
How long does a typical consulting project take?
Project duration depends heavily on scope and complexity. A focused improvement project using the DMAIC cycle typically takes 4 to 16 weeks. For Microsoft 365 implementations, we plan 1 to 12 weeks depending on scope. Lean Six Sigma training programs range from 2 days (Yellow Belt) to 4 weeks (Black Belt, distributed over several months). We always create a realistic project plan with clear milestones at the outset.
What potential does Microsoft 365 offer for process automation?
Microsoft 365, with its Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI), provides a comprehensive ecosystem for process automation — often already included in existing licenses. Typical use cases include automated approval workflows, digitalized forms and requests, automatic document management in SharePoint, self-service reporting with Power BI, and custom business apps without traditional coding. Many organizations use only 20-30% of available M365 capabilities.
What types of organizations benefit from Operational Excellence?
Operational Excellence is suitable for organizations of all sizes and industries. We achieve particularly high impact in small and medium-sized enterprises (50 to 500 employees), where improvement potential is often greatest and implementation paths are short. Typical industries include manufacturing, logistics, services, and healthcare. What matters most is not the size of the organization but the willingness of leadership to actively support change.
How are the Lean Six Sigma training programs structured?
Our training programs combine theory with intensive hands-on practice. Every program includes a real improvement project from the participants' work environment. Training can be delivered as in-person sessions, virtual training, or in a blended learning format. Green Belt training typically covers 8 to 10 days spread over 3 to 4 months, while Black Belt training encompasses 15 to 20 days over 4 to 6 months. Accompanying project coaching is included in all formats.
What results can I expect from an improvement project?
Specific results vary depending on the starting situation and project scope. Typical outcomes from our projects include: lead time reductions of 20 to 40 percent, cost reductions of 10 to 25 percent in the targeted process, significant improvements in quality metrics, and measurably higher customer satisfaction. We always define clear, measurable goals at the start of every project and track progress transparently. Initial quick wins are often visible within just a few weeks.
